The chairman agreed with the editors that "responsible" freedom of expression be sancrosanct whether exercised by the media, or the national assembly or the cabinet, adding that the committee was well cognizant of the right of " journalists to seek information without hindrance to be relayed faithfully to the reader." In that regard, al-Mislim asked the government to support the media in all of its forms.
Asked by a reporter on the committee’s opinion concerning those who condone changes in the current publications law, he said today’s meeting with the editors opened the way for all sides to study any drawbacks in the law, which the committee will take into consideration at a later date when an ad hoc subcommittee will be formed to take the opinions of not only the editors of the dailies, but those of legal experts and specialists as well.
