Qaboos, Gaddafi discuss key Arab, international issues

They reviewed brotherly relations between the two countries and ways of promoting them. They also explored ways to open up wider horizons of cooperation between the two countries and to meet the aspirations of the Omani and Libyan peoples. The two leaders also discussed a number of Arab and international issues.

 

 

The talks were attended from the Omani side by Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, minister of the Diwan of Royal Court General Ali bin Majid Al Ma’amari, minister of the Royal Office Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, minister responsible for foreign affairs Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, minister of national economy and deputy chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council Dr Ali bin Mohammed bin Moosa, minister of health Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, minister of commerce and industry Dr Khamis bin Mubarak Al Alawi, minister of transport and communications and Saif bin Ali Al Kalbani, charge d’affaires of the Sultanate’s embassy in Libya.

 

 

From the Libyan side the talks were attended by Mustafa Mohammed Al Kharoubi, member of the historic leadership for Al Fatih Revolution Dr Al Baghdadi Ali Al Mahmoudi, secretary-general of the General Popular Committee Abdulrahman Mohammed Shalgam, secretary of the General Popular Committee for International Liaison

 

 

Mohammed Hamoudah Al Tahir, secretary of Arab affairs at the General Popular Committee for External Liaison and International Cooperation, and Dr Younis Al Oujaili, secretary of the Libyan Popular Office accredited to the Sultanate.

 

 

His Majesty the Sultan and his deligation arrived here early yesterday on a several-day visit.

 

 

His Majesty was received at Bab Al Aziziyah by Colonel Gaddafi who welcomed him and wished him good stay.

 

 

His Majesty was accorded a red-carpet welcome at Al Bait Al Samid during which the Omani royal anthem and the Libyan anthem were played. His Majesty the Sultan also inspected a guard of honour.

 

 

Colonel Gaddafi accompanied His Majesty the Sultan during a tour of Bait Al Samid, where His Majesty signed the Visitors’ Register.

 

 

“We are delighted to visit this good country for which we have reverent feeling,” he wrote in the register.

 

 

His Majesty the Sultan earlier arrived at Tripoli seaport aboard the royal yacht Al Said, where he was received by General Mustafa Mohammed Al Kharoubi, member of the historic leadership for Al Fatih Revolution, and a number of senior Libyan officers.

 

 

Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, minister responsible for foreign affairs, described the talks, which were held between His Majesty the Sultan and Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi as cordial.

 

 

A number of issues related to the regional situations and issues of common concern were reviewed, Alawi said. He added that relations between the two countries are excellent and they are developing by the mutual trust.

 

 

The minister stressed that the two countries have the same political view on various issues and that they are seeking to enhance stability, development and progress between them. He indicated that this meeting would be followed by other meetings and consultations with officials of the two countries to discuss cooperation in a number of economic, political and cultural fields.
