Mohammed Hayef Al Mutairi was found not guilty in Kuwait’s highest court of insulting former religious affairs minister Abdullah Al Maatuq, Kuna said.
Mutairi had been acquitted in March by a lower court, but the appeals court overturned the verdict in May, sentencing him to one month in jail in connection with a newspaper article accusing Maatuq of stealing eight million dinars ($ 30m).
He was also ordered to pay 5,000 dinars ($ 18,700) to Maatuq in temporary compensation for the accusation, levelled in an article in Al Seyassah newspaper in June 2007 when the minister was still in office.
