The Prime Minister stressed that his country condemned the former Iraqi regime’s invasion of Kuwait, adding that the people of Iraq had also fallen victim to the harsh policies of the former government.

He told the delegation headed by Director of the Kuwait Journalists’ Association (KJA) Adnan Al-Rashid that he hoped the two countries’ memory of the Saddam Hussein regime be wiped off, expressing optimism relations between the neighbourly countries would be further enhanced.

He announced that an ambassador to Kuwait has been proposed from a list of candidates to be later decided upon by the Iraqi parliament.

He did not elaborate any further regarding the ambassador’s identity, adding that in the coming days, a temporary envoy would be assigned to the country’s embassy in Kuwait.

Observers see this meeting between Kuwaiti journalists and prime minister al-Maliki as an apt prelude to an upcoming visit to Iraq by the Kuwaiti Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.

Al-Maliki stressed the importance of HH the Prime Minister’s visit, but remained reserved over the topics of discussion in the upcoming talks.
