Rojo Garcia made the statement to the media after a meeting with visiting Federal National Council (FNC) Speaker, Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair. The meeting was attended by UAE Ambassador, Sultan Al Qirtasi Al Nuaimi, and members of the delegation accompanying the FNC Speaker.

The Spanish Senate President stressed that dialogue had become the best way to resolve disputes between countries because it gives those involved the legality of reconciliation by peaceful means and enables the arbiter to win the understanding and sympathy of others.

He said the UAE stance on the issue of the three islands was a very smart move because disputes cannot be resolved successfully through force.

Asked whether the Spanish Senate is ready to mediate in the issue, he said the issue of the islands concerns the UAE and Iran, adding that Spain has no authority to mediate between the two countries. He also touched on his meeting with the FNC speaker, saying they had discussed ways to boost cooperation and friendship between the UAE and Spain.
