MPs had initially threatened to boycott yesterday’s session because ministers had not appeared to provide answers for more than six weeks. Angry MPs suspended last week’s session early for the same reason.

Shaikh Khalifa also assured MPs yesterday that the Northern Town project will go ahead as planned.

Some were planning to submit an official request seeking a parliamentary probe into the project over fears that plans to use it for government housing had been scrapped.

"The project will be completed and houses will be distributed to Northern Governorate residents," he said.

However, MPs said they could still seek to form a probe committee next week.

Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh yesterday sent a cable of thanks to the Premier in appreciation of his visit to parliament.

He hailed the Prime Minister’s continuous efforts to strengthen ties between the executive, legislature and judiciary to better serve national interest.
