Addressing a ceremony at Lebanese University on Monday night after receiving an honorary doctorate in political science, Prince Naif noted the Kingdom’s efforts to help victims of wars and natural calamities.
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and a number of Arab ministers were present at the awards ceremony. The degree was conferred on the prince in recognition of his contributions to politics and support for Lebanon.
“Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy aims at building cooperation and understanding with other countries and peoples irrespective of their creed, color and language,” the prince said.
“The Kingdom seeks to build strong international ties with the objective of promoting world peace and stability,” he added.
“We look forward to a world replete with peace and harmony and ruled by values, goodness and love,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted Prince Naif as saying. He said Saudi Arabia had been extending assistance to people affected by calamities and crises in different parts of the world, not for any material gains but to win God’s pleasure.
Prince Naif was in Beirut to attend a conference of Arab interior ministers.
In his speech, Prime Minister Siniora emphasized the need for a strategic vision to confront the challenges faced by Arab states.
“We hope more efforts to defeat attempts aimed at undermining security and creating chaos and confusion in our countries.”
The Lebanese premier commended the efforts of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to reconcile Arab leaders and strengthen Arab unity. Lebanese Education Minister Bahia Hariri stressed the need to protect youth from deviant thoughts as part of the anti-terror campaign.
