There can be no peace in Yemen as long as the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia continues its raids and strikes on the country, the leader of the Houthi group said yesterday.
“We are ready for real peace, not deception, and we have presented several initiatives in this regard,” the group’s Almasirah TV channel reported Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi as saying.
“The problem lies in the hostile countries’ insistence to continue their aggression, siege, and evasion, without taking practical steps even on the humanitarian file,” he added, in reference to the Arab coalition.
Al-Houthi called on the legitimate government and the coalition countries to stop the raids and end the occupation, saying only then will the group stop its attacks.
OPINION: Yemenis in Saudi Arabia face humiliation, arbitrary measures and forced expulsion
There was no immediate comment from the Yemeni government or the Arab coalition on Al-Houthi’s statements.
Since 2015, an Arab coalition, led by neighbouring Saudi Arabia, has been carrying out military operations in Yemen, in support of the internationally-backed government against the Houthis.
