Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al Mohammed Al Sabah, had two phone calls with his Moroccan and Algerian counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported yesterday.
The calls came about a week after Algeria’s Ramtane Lamamra announced that his country had decided to sever diplomatic ties with Morocco, because of what he referred to as Rabat’s “successive hostile actions,” at a time when Moroccan authorities expressed regret over this step, describing its justifications as “false”.
Al Sabah had separate phone conversations with Lamamra and Morocco’s Nasser Bourita to discuss “solid bilateral relations and the latest developments on the regional and international arenas.”
Last Friday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Saudi counterpart Faisal Bin Farhan made two separate phone calls to Lamamra and Bourita.
The Egyptian statement indicated at the time that Shoukry touched on the recent developments in the relations between the two countries, and “ways to overcome these circumstances”, in reference to the ongoing Morocco-Algeria diplomatic crisis.
According to the statement, Shoukry stressed the need to work to promote diplomatic solutions and dialogue.
Two days earlier, Saudi Arabia urged, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rabat and Algiers to show restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise dialogue to resolve their differences.
