In an interview with Al-Jarida newspaper issued Sunday, Al-Sabah said that Kuwaitis were always one united family, noting that they courageously fought the invaders and supported their leadership during the Iraq occupation of the state back in the Saddam era. Al-Sabah said that it was not fair to rush in an evaluation of
the performance of the government, adding that it was significant to give it an opportunity to present its agenda and execute its plans before broaching an assessment.
He said that he had trust that the government, headed by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, was able to bring achievements that match the people’s ambitions, if allowed to operate within a suitable environment and with cooperation from the National Assembly.
Kuwait has all requirements for a development launch to become, in a short time, a special regional financial and trade center, he said. However, achieving that strategic national goal requires cooperation, trust between the legislative and executive authorities, and the support of media, he added.
The positive aspects of government bodies and their employees are much more than the negative ones, which media focus on causing disappointment and suspicion, he also highlighted. Sheikh Nawaf praised the efforts of the Interior Ministry, Army, Police, and National Guards in preserving the state’s security.
On traffic, he said that Kuwait, like the majority of countries, suffered from traffic jams because of the rapid increase in the number of vehicles. The authorities are doing their best to deal with the problem, but that would take time, he noted.
On the Gulf Cooperation Council (GGC), Sheikh Nawaf said that the bloc was an exemplary framework for interaction and coordination among states and their people.
Sheikh Nawaf also extended congratulations to US President Barack Obama on winning the Nobel Peace Prize, wishing him and his administration luck in their policy that clearly showed full respect to all religions so far. Since he became president, Obama made good effort to help achieve peace in the Middle East, he said.
Still on the peace process, he noted that Kuwait had announced many times its support of peace talks that would bring Israel to end aggression, implement UN resolutions, withdraw from occupied Arab territories, and allow the Palestinian people to enjoy and practice their right to establish an independent state, Sheikh Nawaf pointed out.
His Highness called the Palestinians to end their conflicts and to unite and praised the Egyptian efforts to reach reconciliation among the Palestinian fractions.
