The government also concluded a deal to buy a number of aircraft for the Royal Air Force of Oman (Rafo).

The college, which will be located near the defence ministry’s Al Murtafa’a Camp in the Muscat governorate, will offer programmes in different specialities such as aviation engineering, weapons and vehicle systems, communications, radars and computers, as well as in marine and civil engineering.

“The college will meet the needs of the Sultan’s Armed Forces in terms of specialised national cadres in the engineering and technical fields,” a spokesman for the defence ministry said.

The agreement, signed by Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al Busaidi, Minster Responsible for Defence Affairs, with Al Edrak, Larsen and Tubro and Oman Shapoorji, the contractors, includes the construction of campus buildings, workshops, hostels for students and infrastructure facilities.

“The setting up of the college is part of the development and modernisation witnessed by the Sultan Armed Forces (SAF),” the spokesman said. Under another deal that Sayyid Badr signed with EADS of Spain, Rafo will acquire a number of tactical transport and marine reconnaissance aircraft.
