A team from the Directorate of Narcotics Control, acting on a tip-off, raided a house in the Seeb suburb of Muscat last week and arrested four suspects for peddling drugs. During the raid, the police also arrested an Asian national from whom a big quantity of heroin and cash were confiscated.
Meanwhile, a team from the Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Investigation arrested five expatriates from an Asian country for selling illicit alcoholic beverages.
“The police investigators had received information from their informers that a group of people were storing a large amount of alcoholic beverages and peddling the contraband in Muscat area,” a spokesperson for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said.
After follow-up investigations, the police raided a house and seized a substantial quantity of counterfeit alcoholic products and also confiscated the vehicle that was being used for the illicit operations. The accused were referred to the Public Prosecution for interrogation.
In a separate development, the ROP responded to complaints from residents that a cluster of houses in the Ruwi area were being used for immoral acts. “The police team arrested four women of Asian nationalities on the charges of prostitution,” the spokesperson said, adding that investigations were continuing to arrest the other accused.
