Mazen al-Otaibi, who is in the US for training at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, was detained at a hotel in the Sine City on New Year’s Eve.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said that the police took action to arrest Alotaibi after "received a call of a possible sexual assault of a 13-year-old juvenile" at a hotel in the Nevada gambling city at about 9:20 am (1720 GMT) on December 31.

"The victim, who was a guest in the hotel, was reportedly assaulted by an adult male, who was also a guest," said an LVMPD statement on Friday.

The police say the incident is still under investigation and that the officer is under arrest "as a result of the investigation."

Police spokesman Dan McGrath also said that the suspect had allegedly forced the victim into his room when the boy was walking down a hallway.

"This juvenile was not a family member and had no connection [with the suspect] before then," McGrath said. "It was a random contact."

The 23-year-old Saudi sergeant faces a series of charges such as “sexual assault on a victim under the age of 16, lewdness with a minor under 14, coercion, using force, and 1st degree kidnapping.”
