Ahmadinejad for enhanced Iran-GCC cooperation

During his meeting with Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdelrahman Al-Atiyyah in Khorramabad, capital of the western Iranian province of Lorestan, Ahmadinejad said countries of the region enjoyed historical, cultural and religious bonds and could be a role model for other countries if they enhanced cooperation.

Ahmadinejad is making an inspection tour of the city where he opened major economic projects, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

All atmospheres are conducive to development of ties between Iran and the GCC member countries in order to serve their common interests as well as the interests of the Muslim world, the Iranian president asserted.

The countries of the region enjoy huge economic potentials that and serve as basis for regional bloc and achieve the aspirations of their nations, he underscored.

Ahmadinejad appreciated the position of the GCC on the Iranian nuclear program, adding that Iran was ready to put its nuclear technology at the disposal of the GCC members and help launch a common market for nuclear fuel.

For his part, Al-Atiyyah hailed Iran’s desire to strengthen cooperation with the GCC members in all fields, recalling Ahmadinejad’s participation in the last GCC summit.

"The GCC and Qatari Amir who is the current GCC president are following up the implementation of the resolutions of the last summit and Ahmadinejad’s suggestions," he pointed out.

Al-Atiyyah reaffirmed the position of the GCC on Iran’s nuclear program, saying: "The GCC backs Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy."
