Iran, Qatar affirm unity of Muslim nation

The official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said the two leaders, during a meeting today, discussed means of cementing bilateral ties, key regional and internatioal issues of common concern.

Ties between Tehran and Doha are based on mutual respect, confidence and brotherhood, IRNA quoted the Iranian president as saying. He expressed hope that mutual cooperation between the two countries would be expanded in various fields.

He expressed hope that Muslims would unify to secure robust support for the Palestinian people vis-a-vis "the Zionist entity" — Israel.

For his part, Sheikh Hamad stated that Qatar views Iran as a key and influential state in the region, and its ties with Tehran as strategic.

He praised the ties between Iran and the GCC countries, affirming that Qatar would seek to bolster these relations.
