$ 1m Bahrain pledge for UN programme

A UN Information Centre statement said yesterday that $ 500,000 (BD189,000) has been pledged for the Technical Co-operation Trust Fund of the Special Human Settlements Programme for the Palestinian People and $ 200,000 (BD75,600) has been set aside for the UN Habitat flagship publications in Arabic.
In addition, $ 300,000 (BD113,400) will be allocated for the identification and implementation of municipal management and municipal finance systems in Bahrain.
During her visit, Ms Tibaijuka had said Bahrain served as a "good example" of a developing country that has achieved impressive improvements in sustainable development.
The aim of the visit was to strengthen the co-operation with the Bahrain government, as well as to identify and establish relevant development projects to further the UN Habitat agenda in Bahrain.
Ms Tibaijuka held discussions with the ministers of Works and Housing, Municipalities and Agriculture, and State for Foreign Affairs.
