Bahraini FM heads to US on visit in shadow of tension on nuclear issue


A statement by the Foreign Ministry here revealed that Sheikh Khalid would meet his US counterpart Condoleezza Rice in addition to a number of Congressmen.

The Bahraini Foreign Minister revealed that the meeting would discuss developments in the Mideast region and the Kingdom’s efforts in promoting peace here.

On Sunday, Sheikh Khalid was on a visit to Tehran where he met with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki, discussing the Iranian nuclear file.

In statements to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Bahraini Minister said that the Gulf country supports Iran’s peaceful nuclear program that is under heavy attack from the US which says that Tehran is the using nuclear power to develop atomic weapons.

Bahrain is a member of the six-state Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that has voiced deep concern at prospects of a military confrontation as a result of the nuclear question in the region and possible dangerous accidents at Iran’s nuclear sites, located close to the member states of the council.
