The case was filed against the nationality department and the next hearing is scheduled to be held on June 21. The lawyer of the family, Sana Buhamood told the court that the Bahraini mother challenges the outdated nationality law which contradicts the principle of equal rights to female and male citizens given by the Bahrain constitution.

The law gives the right to Bahraini fathers to pass their nationality to their children from birth and to their foreign wives after five years of marriage, while women are denied the same right. Buhamood said the Bahraini mother had filed the case seeking a direction to the nationality department to issue passport for her children and husband.
