The minister was invited to meet and speak to the people about the ministry’s unemployment insurance plan. The plan which was unveiled in late November last year is expected to provide a temporary source of income to the unemployed and job opportunities after a training period. This insurance scheme will apply to Bahrainis and expatriates alike.

Speaking to the Tribune the deputy said: “The scheme is anticipated to help new entrants to the job market. They will have to register with the Ministry of Labour and then they will be provided with training and financial support for a period of six months.”

Sources told the Tribune that by the end of May a contribution of one per cent would have to be made to the fund by an employed individual, his employer and the government. This was to build up the reserves in the schemes to fund the unemployed individual.
