Sharif was shot with a rubber bullet in his left knee while he was delivering a speech on Saturday night. He was rushed to the Salmaniya Medical Complex where the X-rays showed that there was no fracture.

“I have spoken to my lawyers and intend to take action so that such things do not happen in the future. The role of the Public Security is to protect the public not attack them. I have no intentions of punishing anyone as it was the superiors who gave orders.” said Sharif.

Sources said that Shraif plans to sue the Ministry of Interior, but when asked he declined to comment on it.

The president along with Al Wefaq Deputy Jalal Fairooz were addressing a gathering to support Hassan Mushaima from the Haq movement and President of the defunct Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, Abdulhadi Al Khawaja.

Meanwhile, the President of the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights, Mohammed Al Maskati, told the Bahrain Tribune: “According to eyewitnesses, the security forces arrested five youth from Naim area in connection with the Nuwaidarat rally. They were attacked by the security forces. They have been accused by the Public Prosecutor of drawing graffiti on the walls with reference to the government.”

The names provided to the Tribune of those detained who are in their 20’s are: Sayed Olwy Sayed Hadi Al Abbar, Hussein Hasan Marhon, Sayed Baquer Sayed Sadek Al Abbar and Hussein Abbass Noah.

Activists and supporters of the seminar are receiving text messages stating that if they attend the meeting their names will be given to the authorities.

Al Maskati claimed that the families have not heard from their sons since their arrest and they are worried.

“SMS’s are being circulated to the youth in Bani Jamra, Sanabis and Hamad Town urging them to stop their activities. We will hold a meeting at the Islamic Action Society headquarters in Qufool on Wednesday. It will be attended by the families of the detainees and activists. We will decide our future plan of action,” he said.
