Employment is rising in Bahrain: Bahrain labour authority

The total number of people employed in Bahrain hit 599,017 by the end of the second quarter of this year.

This represented an annual increase of 13 per cent, down from 16.5pc in the first quarter, according to Labour Market Regulatory Authority figures released yesterday.

Foreign worker employment increased by 63,434 over the last year to reach 460,352 by the end of this year’s second quarter.

This represented a slowdown in annual growth in foreign recruitment to 16pc, compared to 18.8pc in the first quarter, said LMRA chief executive officer Ali Radhi. Bahraini employment reached 138,665 in the second quarter, representing an annual growth of 4pc – down from 9.8pc in the first quarter.

The average Bahraini monthly wage increased slightly from BD413 in the first quarter to BD429 in the second, according to the LMRA Indicators bulletin. Average monthly wages overall slipped slightly by BD2, to BD305, says the report.
