"We are near to the end of the negotiations. We hope it will be closed by the end of the year," an Iraqi source told reporters after the meeting.
EU sources expressed satisfaction at the results of the talks and hoped that the PCA could be concluded as "soon as possible".
Both the EU and Iraqi sources spoke on the condition of anonymity. Some technical issues in the trade and immigration sector remains to be finalized, they said.
EU-Iraqi negotiations on the PCA began in November 2006.
The PCA negotiations are expected to lead to the first ever contractual agreement between the EU and Iraq.
