The meeting will also discuss the creation of a mechanism to coordinate positions in the regional and international parliamentary fora, finding the effective means to establish communication between the GCC bodies and the parliamentary authorities, holding seminars and conferences of interest to the GCC Parliamentary Councils, as well as the new worksheets that the Speakers of the GCC Councils represent.

In a speech he delivered at the outset of the meeting, the Advisory Council Speaker H E Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Kholeifi expressed thanks and appreciation to the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for his support for such meetings that served the interests of GCC countries and their people.

Al Kholeifi said the meeting is being held amid several challenges facing the nation. “We have to protect our people against such challenges and focus on the GCC citizens who are pinning their hopes on such meetings for realising their ambitions and aspirations,” he added.

The Gcc Secretary-General Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah highlighted in a speech he delivered at the opening session the importance of the meeting, noting that in its first edition in Doha, it constituted an addition to gcc achievements. It is the first time that speakers of gcc parliaments meet as a group and this is ‘a coronation to efforts of the gcc parliament speakers’, he said. He stressed that the gcc Supreme Council welcomed holding regular meetings for the gcc parliament speakers.
