Al-Attiya slammed, what he termed in a statement "the attacks that reflect the prevalence of the logic of force in the conduct of the Israeli government." He added that such attacks "reflect the true face of the Israeli occupation forces" and worsen the conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis in a manner that ill-serves the cause of peace and stability in the region.
Al-Attiya called on the international community in general and the UN Security Council in particular to do their best to "rein in the Israeli aggression machine" and argued that to observe silence about aggression targeting women, children and the elderly would only aggravate the conflict and have negative impact on the chances of achieving a lasting peace and stability in the region.
The secretary-general called on the Palestinians to unite because their national unity was the only way to face up to the dangers ahead.
