Gulf Council’s Co-operation Enhanced

Abdul Qadir bin Salim Al Dhahab, Secretary general, said Shura councils and national, Ummah and other representative councils in the six-member states had made “great strides in cooperation, joint co-ordination and exchange of views” during the past ten years.

 

He was speaking at the opening session of the 11th meeting of secretaries-general of GCC representative. President of Majlis Ash’shura Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Qatabi was the chief guest.

 

Dhahab said the councils had made major gains in joint training, exchange of expertise and information and coordination of stands. He added “the march of joint cooperation” among Gulf parliamentary councils had entered a new stage after the GCC leaders agreed on the principle of holding periodic meetings at the level of the councils’ chairmen at their summit in Riyadh in December last year.

 

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Minister Sayyid Fahad bin Mahmoud Al Said received the secretaries-general. Sayyid Fahad stressed the importance of their meetings which, he pointed out, were being held within the context of the GCC’s “endeavours to enhance cooperation among the member states”.

 

Discussions between the two sides touched on aspects of Gulf cooperation and the contribution of representative councils in the development of the six countries.
