Al-Sabah, who is eyed to succeed the Kuwaiti foreign minister, spoke to IRNA on the sidelines of a ceremony held at the Iranian embassy in Kuwait to mark the 28th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
Kuwait strives to boost its ties with Iran in all fields, he said, and added that the Kuwaiti government believes that Iran has been instrumental in maintaining stability and tranquility in the region.
He said Tehran plays a fundamental role in the political, economic and social developments of the region, and added that Kuwaiti officials are firmly determined to further expand their cooperation with Iran in line with the two sides’ interests.
He expressed hope Iran and Kuwait would jointly take steps to preserve security and consolidate stability and tranquility in the region.
Asked about a planned visit by Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad al-Sabah al-Salim al-Sabah to Iran this week, he said the visit would take place in line with the two sides’ efforts to bolster bilateral cooperation and implement agreements already signed.
The visit would also prepare the ground for a visit by Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah to Iran in the near future, the official added.
He stressed that Kuwait-Iran relations have special significance in terms of regional security and stability and said the two sides were working to preserve tranquility and peace in the region.
