Sheikh Mohammad, speaking to KUNA shortly after arrival here to head Kuwait’s delegation to the meetings of Iraq’s neighbors and International Compact on Iraq (ICI), said he would emphasize during the conferences Kuwait’s support to the Iraqi people and government.
He said the ICI meeting was a continuation of the preparatory conference that was held in Kuwait last October.
Sheikh Mohammad said Kuwait was an integral part of the ICI, designed to help Iraq stand on its feet again.
Representatives of 60 countries, regional and international organizations are to meet Thursday to lauch the ICI initiative. The meeting is to be co-chaired by Iraqi prime minister Nouri Al-Maliki and UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon.
The ICI meeting will be followed by an expanded conference of the foreign ministers of Iraq, its neighbors, UN Security Council (UNSC) five permanent members, the G8, Egypt, the UN, the Arab League, the European Union (EU) and the Organization of Islamic Conference.
