Speaking to KUNA here on the sidelines of the International Conference on "NATO-UAE Relations and the Way Forward in the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI), the GCC chief said: "Preparations are underway for the 30th summit meeting of the GCC heads of state, due in Kuwait next December." "There is a constant coordination for the major event on an almost daily basis between the GCC Secretariat and the concerned departments of the State of Kuwait notably the Foreign Ministry," he affirmed.

"The meeting of the GCC foreign ministers, due on November 17, will set the stage for the summit on the eve of which the foreign ministers will meet again.

"The agenda of the summit is expected to include a range of economic, security, social, educational and environmental topics of common concern for the six GCC states.

"The summit will constitute a landmark event in the history of the joint action of the regional bloc in all domains," Al-Atiyyah believes.

It will give momentum to the initiative raised by Qatari Amir Sheikh Hamad Bin-Khalifa Al-Thani at the GCC consultative summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last May.

"The initiative for strengthening regional cooperation in a comprehensive way and empowering the GCC will be the focus of the summit’s preparatory meeting, due in Doha, Qatar," he revealed.
The Qatari document gained appraisal of the clear-sighted leaders of the GCC states who are unanimous on working together to translate words into action," Al-Atiyyah went on to say.
