Speaking to KUNA, he said that some companies with government contracts had not abided by labor laws, adding that the ministry was taking measures against these violating firms.

He explained that a meeting of top ministry officials had been held to prevent such violations, adding that steps were taken to ensure the transfer of salaries of workers to their bank accounts. Every worker must have a bank account, and the ministry will penalize any company violating this regulation, he said.

Moreover, Al-Kandari said that amendments to the labor law involved three parties: business holders, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and representatives of the Workers’ Union. He noted that 70 percent of Kuwait’s population comprised of expatriates, which caused an imbalance that added to the ministry’s burdens and responsibilities.
