Kuwaiti MP Calls For Establishing Gulf Parliament

Mohammad Jassem al-Saqer, head of the Kuwaiti National Assembly Committee on Foreign Affairs, made the remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) upon arrival here on an official visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of friendship visits paid by Kuwaiti deputies to exchange views with their UAE counterparts.

He said his call was aimed to step up cooperation and coordination among GCC member countries on regional political and economic events.

He vowed that more visits by Kuwaiti members of parliament would be paid to UAE in the coming period, pointing to the role of Gulf parliaments’ in giving advice and counsel to political leaders on regional goings-on, including Iran’s nuclear standoff, war in Iraq and the Arab-Israeli peace process.

Al-Saqer, who is also chairman of the Interim Arab Parliament, went on to say that Arab parliamentarians shared many woes and concerns that required thinking, consultation and cooperation over how to put an end to them.

He added that he would visit Dubai in his coming UAE tour, representing the Arab parliament, in order to discuss with UAE deputies several issues that concern the Arab and Gulf community, together with regional, Arab and international issues.

The Kuwaiti parliamentary team will meet with UAE members and visit several state agencies and centers in the UAE capital.
