He underlined strengthening Lebanon’s constitutional institutions in light of the current constitutional deadlines. Shaikh Khalifa made his remarks as he received Lebanon Prime Minister Fouad Siniora at the Al Bateen Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi. Siniora arrived yesterday in Abu Dhabi as part of a regional tour.
Siniora briefed Shaikh Khalifa on the current situation in Lebanon in light of the latest political developments, as well as on efforts by Arab and other countries to pave the way for a climate of security, stability and reconstruction.
Shaikh Khalifa expressed his hope that the UAE-Lebanon relations would be further boosted in different areas.
Shaikh Khalifa and siniora also discussed issues of common concern as well as the existing bilateral relations and ways to further boost them. The Lebanese prime minister said: “The UAE has won a special place in the hearts of Lebanese people for its support to and interest in Lebanon’s security and stability.”
Present at the meeting were General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Abu dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other Shaikhs and ministers.
Meanwhile, Lebanese prime minister has hailed UAE’s noble stance towards Lebanese people and UAE’s willingness to stand beside them in all situations. In a statement shortly after his meeting with President Shaikh Khalifa, the Lebanese premier thanked the UAE for its efforts in rebuilding Lebanon. He described UAE’s humanitarian programme to remove landmines from Lebanon as exceptional. Fouad Siniora said his talks with the president were fruitful and positive.
