Qatar Election Panel Holds Workshop for Candidates

Addressing the participants, Dr Khalid bin Jaber Al Thani, deputy chairman, PEC, said the council is happy to note that it has succeeded in making fruitful interactions with the public on the upcoming elections.

 

 

 

Yusuf Obaidan, Faculty of Political Science, Qatar University, said: “Since the concept of democracy is different from country to country, it is not practical for a country to imitate the system prevalent in another country. Qatar is already on the path of democratisation process. The country’s decision to lift censorship on media was part of it", he said.

 

 

On the eligibility of a candidates the CMC candidate should be an ‘original’ Qatari and should be proficient in written and spoken Arabic. The minimum age should be 25. However, those who are serving the Army or police are not eligible for contesting in the CNC elections, he said.
