The tiny oil and gas-rich Gulf state lost out in the first round of voting for the 2106 event, but that hasn’t deterred the country’s sports princes who spent millions of dollars hosting the Asian Games in 2006.
Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the president of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) said that his country is still determined to host the Olympic Games.
‘His Highness said that Qatar will speak with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) about the obstacles (to) Doha’s bid for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games,’ said a statement on the QOC website.
‘Following such discussions and resolution of the obstacles with the IOC Executive Council, Qatar will bid for the 2020 Olympics Games according to the new criteria.’
