The Peninsula: The freshly-elected Central Municipal Council (CMC) held its first meeting yesterday presided over by Chairman, Nasser bin Abdullah Al Kabi.

Four key committees were set up and the lone woman member of the CMC, Sheikha Al Jefairi, was appointed head of the legal panel.

A highlight was that members of the previous CMC were also present and greeted one another before the start of the inaugural meet of the newly-elected CMC.

This is the third term of the 29-member CMC. The first one was elected in early 1999, while the second one was elected in 2003.

Al Kabi, in his address, referred to expatriates and said that the present CMC would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the aspirations of citizens and residents to see improved civic amenities are fulfilled.

He also promised active cooperation between the CMC, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA) and various other agencies involved in civic and public works.
