UAE cabinet sets up council to enhance competitiveness

Having considered proposals for enhancing the UAE’s competitiveness, the cabinet decided to set up a competitiveness council and set key performance indicators at each ministry to help improve competitiveness.

 

 

The cabinet instructed all governmental, semi-governmental and private bodies to entertain the UAE identity card as an official document. The cabinet also reviewed a bill for amendment of the Federal Law on decorations and badges in the Ministry of Interior, and a bill on credit information organisation.

 

 

The cabinet endorsed an agreement between the governments of the UAE and Bulgaria on prevention of double taxation and tax evasion. It also approved a memorandum of understanding for industrial cooperation between the UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry and the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and a cultural cooperation agreement between the two countries. Also endorsed were a legal cooperation agreement between the UAE and Australia, and an agreement of economic, trade, and technical cooperation with the government of Azerbaijan.

 

 

The cabinet also endorsed some specifications as binding UAE standards. It also reviewed annual reports by the Accountancy Board on the closing accounts for the federal budget ending as of December 31st 2006, the UAE University, the General Authority for Youth and Sports, the securities and commodities authority, the Federal Environment Authority, the National Human Resource Development Authority, the Zakat Fund, the Emirates Post, the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, and the United Printing Company.
