Women’s role in Bahrain economic development praised

A ceremony, to be held tomorrow at 9.30am at the College of Health Sciences, will recognise their huge contribution to the economic development of the country.

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) chairwoman will patronise the event.

This year’s event is celebrated under the theme ‘Women and Health Security’.

The SCW issued a joint statement with Bahraini Women’s Union paying tribute to female employees who are taking part in building their country’s future.

Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) chairman Dr Essam Fakhro paid homage to Bahraini women’s contribution to economic development.

Citing official figures, he said businesswomen represented 15 per cent of BCCI members.

The Labour Ministry has lined up a programme to celebrate the first anniversary.

Outstanding female employees, in recognition of their professional dedication, will be honoured at the event.

The programme will also feature a lecture on working women and cultural contests.

Female employees will also be vying for the annual outstanding woman employee award.
